As heavy rain hits Monroe County on Friday, we could also see the season’s first snow showers this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, up to two inches of rain could fall Friday night, accompanied by wind gusts as high as 26 mph. The wet weather is due to Nicole’s projected path up the Eastern Seabord.
“As forecast by AccuWeather meteorologists for days, Nicole will bring a variety of dangerous weather impacts to the Eastern United States in the coming days,” AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter said.
A flash flooding risk has been issued between Buffalo and Syracuse, according to Accuweather. The rain showers will continue to hit the area through Saturday night.
“Residents in these areas, especially those living near hilly terrain, near streams and creeks as well as low-lying areas that can tend to easily flood,” Porter said. “Be prepared to immediately move to higher ground if flood warnings are issued for your community.”
Rain showers are predicted to die down Sunday, but the National Weather Service forecast a 30% chance of snow showers before 8 p.m. Sunday. A tenth of an inch could fall in Rochester as temperatures drop to nearly 39 degrees.
